BELGRADE -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday signed a joint statement on the building of a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era, making Serbia the first European country to build such a community with China.

In the joint statement, the two countries decided to deepen and elevate the China-Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Serbia was the first Central and Eastern European country to become China's comprehensive strategic partner eight years ago.

"It is a strategic choice made by both sides to build a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era. Its goal is to realize the aspiration of the two peoples for a better life. Its foundation and driving force come from the firm support and extensive participation of the two peoples," Xi told reporters during a joint press conference with Vucic.

The Serbian side is willing to work with China to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, according to the joint statement on the building of a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era.

China and Serbia are willing to expand the use of China-Europe freight trains and the Chinese side is happy to see more quality Serbian products transported to the Chinese market through the train service, said a joint statement between the two countries issued here Wednesday.

In 2023, the China-Europe freight train service had connected 219 cities in 25 European countries, establishing a secure and efficient lifeline for global industrial and supply chains.

China, Serbia stand ready to strengthen financial cooperation

China and Serbia are willing to strengthen financial cooperation and support the early opening of Serbia's RMB clearance bank, said a joint statement between the two countries issued here Wednesday.

The two sides stand ready to promote the use of local currency settlement in bilateral trade and investment, and encourage their financial institutions to provide financing support and financial services for trade and investment cooperation, said the statement signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

China, Serbia to jointly develop new quality productive forces

China and Serbia agree to jointly develop new quality productive forces according to local conditions and build high-tech industrial cooperation projects, said a joint statement between the two countries issued here Wednesday.

To achieve the goal, the two countries are ready to encourage and promote investment cooperation.

They also agree to deepen cooperation in space science and technology, and China welcomes Serbia's participation in the International Lunar Research Station, said the statement signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
